8 Years of Life In Excess

I am writing this blog post as a tribute to the organization that shaped my career for the past 8 years.

10.10.2010 is one of the most memorable days of my life, the day I joined INXS Technologies (now Market Simplified). I am extremely thankful to the people who believed in this sloppy novice and hired me into this wonderful organization. I was merely a fresher with just 4 months of work experience. No surprise that they still continue to inspire me regardless of their proximity.

Write up about me in my office website.

Write up about me on the old official website.

I began my career as a Trainee Developer, since then it has been an incredible journey so far. The initial days at the Alwarpet office is the most memorable of all. I was dearly treated like a kid as I was the youngest of the bunch. Smiley ball cricket, Samco dinners, Late night XBox gaming, beach visits and what not. Few even used to make fun that I spend more time in the pantry than my desk. With lots of fun, undoubtedly it was Life In Excess.

Do you think this would wake me up?

The next phase is when we moved to Ascendas IT park as Market Simplified. Professionally the best stage of my career. I got opportunities to work on various banking and capital markets projects. With amazing mentors and project managers, I gained a lot of exposure to technical and domain aspects. Few of the most memorable moments are ShipIT Days, a kind of Hackathon where we work for straight 24 hours to build useful products. The highlight was when I got an opportunity to change my career path. I moved from software development to business development as a research analyst. It was a steep learning curve for me and completely transformed my thought process.

ShipIt – Coding To Glory

It was not just the professional aspects the company was highly supportive of my out of office activities. Which includes my MBA, Running, Jagriti Yatra, Travelling and Trekking. All along this exciting path, I was lucky enough to be bestowed with good mentors and earned a lot of amazing friends for life. I am so grateful to this place for enriching my life a lot of positive things.

My Place At Work – Filled with toys

09.11.2018 (today) will be yet another milestone in my career as I am relieving form my job at Market Simplified to pursue other opportunities. Will be missing my dear friends, my desk, nap room and all other best the company got to offer. But, Life has to move on. Isn’t change the eternal constant?

I am proud to have worked for Market Simplified, and I am grateful for the time and patience the company has shown in molding me as what I am today. I wish Market Simplified all the very best for its future endeavors.

The End … of Life In Excess …

The One Who Ignored

Incident 1:
It was a usual Monday at work and definitely not an exciting day. I usually have lunch with a group of friends and this day is no different and usual conversations continued.

Me: I went to this Wild Tribe Ranch in ECR last Friday eve and it was awesome.
Friend: What’s that?
Me: It’s an adventure park, you must try it.
Friend: How much did it cost you?
Me: I didn’t pay, they had their pre-inaugural event that day and I was invited.
Friend: How come they invited you?
Me: I am part of this Chennai Bloggers Club, and such establishments collaborate with them for brand promotion.
Friend: Is there a shortage of bloggers in Chennai?
Me: No, There are plenty. (Innocently)

It might have taken me some time to understand his mockery. But, at the same time I was wondering how many posts of mine he might have read, probably none.

Incident 2:
My office was sponsoring its employees to run in Chennai Marathon.

Friend1: Last time you were volunteering na so, this time, you better sign up at least for a 10Km run.
Me: I think I’ll give it a try.
Colleague: You!! Run? You look like a potato, and you would probably end up rolling all the way instead of running. (Laughing heavily)

This was probably because I was this fat, stout looking guy back then and he, a slim one. But now, I am pretty much the same fat, stout looking guy who can run and cycle a little longer than before.

All my life I had people around me who would look down upon me. Maybe it’s my looks or my attitude or their natural tendency or whatever, I am still clueless about it. At times, it’s from people close to me making it difficult for me to act indifferent. My greatest struggle is bypassing all those negativity that makes me feel inferior. Since my childhood, I had so many people around me telling me why I won’t and can’t do certain things. I know it’s the same case in most of our lives.

The only way for me to overcome struggle is to simply ignore them, if not the person, at least, their words. Nowadays, my weapon against them is my smile, my “good, thank you, now go and mind your own business” smile. They say “Ignorance is bliss”, but in my case “Ignoring is bliss”. Being optimistic has made a significant change in my life. I learnt to put these silly things behind me and concentrate on the things I like to do. I learnt to get inspired and motivated from even the tiniest of things. Be it a second faster than my previous run or a bot following my blog, those tiny things are motivating enough for me to cruise ahead. I have also developed a kind of aggressiveness within, not the fierce one like a shark, but like a duck. Yes, duck it is. I know it’s not a pretty animal to compare oneself with. A duck might look calm outside, gliding across the water, but, beneath the water, it relentlessly paddles its feet. That’s the kind of aggressiveness I am talking about.

I feel happy when someone comes up to me and tells me that they have started running or blogging inspired by me or something I had said. It feels like an achievement. Nothing adds more positivity than surrounding yourself with positive people. Thankfully, there is another kind of people in my life too, the ones who stand by me, help me through my tough times and support me. I am grateful to all those wonderful souls in my life.

My smiles keep the negativity miles away. I just want to be this happy soul.

Ten Squared

Significance of 100

  • 100 is the square of 10 (in scientific notation it is written as 102). The standard SI prefix for a hundred is “hecto-“.
  • 100 is the basis of percentages (per cent meaning “per hundred” in Latin), with 100% being a full amount.
  • 100 is the sum of the first nine prime numbers, as well as the sum of some pairs of prime numbers e.g., 3 + 97, 11 + 89, 17 + 83, 29 + 71, 41 + 59, and 47 + 53.
  • 100 is the sum of the cubes of the first four integers (100 = 13 + 23 + 33 + 43). This is related by Nicomachus’s theorem to the fact that 100 also equals the square of the sum of the first four integers: 100 = 102 = (1 + 2 + 3 + 4)2.[2]
  • 26 + 62 = 100, thus 100 is a Leyland number.

Ten squared is 100, thus the title of the post is simply 100. If you are curious why this guy has put up some trivia about 100, please keep guessing. I was even surprised to see today’s date (10th October) coinciding with the post, multiplying its day and month also yields 100. Ok, will come straight to the point, yayyyyy, this is my 100th blog post.

100 post is really cool milestone na, so, I take this post as an opportunity to thank few. First, let me thank myself for being determined to write consistently, at least one post a month. Then,  I thank my friends whom I troubled, forced and tortured them to read my posts whenever I wrote one. Then, I thank my fellow bloggers and my dear friends at Chennai Blogging Club, you guys are simply awesome and one of my vital source of motivation when it comes to writing. Last but not the least, I sincerely thank all the readers who visited my blog and read my posts, even the counts motivate me.

If I read my 1st post now, I would probably laugh at it for the language and the writing style. But, there is no 100th post with out the 1st one. I would better say that my writing got evolved with my blog. I know there is way to go, but I am really happy about this milestone. Thanks again everyone who supported me and this blog.

This day also got yet another significance in my life. Same day, 5 years back (10.10.10) I joined the company which I am currently working for. So, it’s my 5th work anniversary too. Way to go my boy, way to go.

This one is dedicated to you, The Reader.

What’s On My Desktop?

Dear Blog,
I am basically fundamentally sorry (RJ Balaji Style) for not minding you for a while. Was quite busy with my work and exams. Leave you, Just think about the readers who visited the blog and got disappointed as there isn’t any new post. How many of them would have eagerly looked at their feeds for a new blog post from me, So convey my sincere apologies to them too. This time I thought not to load them with my usual emotional posts or poem, How about something light, something kiddish?

I don’t own a PC or a Laptop now, what I use is the laptop provided by my office. If you are keen about the topic and anxious to know what’s on my desktop, can’t help. Actually there is nothing on it, not even recycle bin icon. Its a plain desktop with a plain background, no icons on it as they were disabled as part of office security policy. Look yourself.

Desktop

Desktop

You might ask me, why a post and all for an empty desktop. Actually this one is not about the desktop, its about desk top. I have observed many desks in my office. Some have family pictures, Some have god’s statue, some have awards and some are just empty just like my desktop. So what’s on mine? Like few, mine has got a few toys on it. Sounds Kiddish? Toys are no more kids affair nowadays , they ask for smartphones and tablets to play games.

Few weeks back, I had to stay late at work to complete few pending tasks. Almost everyone left the office, whole office was dark except couple of cubicles (including mine) which are lit up. With a bored mind and tired eyes, I lied on my desk and looked around. What I saw first was me smiling at myself and I am ain’t  looking a mirror. It’s a picture of mine gifted by Rams, In which I was happily smiling and wearing my favourite “goCool” t-shirt which was hand painted by best friend SriJani. Even the toys were smiling at me, All of them had a nice smiling face. Then my cubicle panel had  a couple of magnetic Smilies, couple of smiling “I love Chennai” Zha cafe postcards and a smiling mickey mouse card. I found everything around me smiling except me. I have no idea what went through my mind at that moment but felt boosted with positive energy. It automatically forced some smile and I started working again. Since then they would always smile at me, and I smile back inspite of any demanding situations.

There are some more trivias about these toys

  1. All the toys except the panda are McDonald’s kids meal toys.
  2. All the toys are looted from my colleagues (with their knowledge) except the Night Fury one which I bought myself.
  3. That Mickey mouse card is an entry card to Disney Word, which was looted from a colleague who made a trip to US.
  4. Panda is no longer with me and someone took it away 😦 .

Moral of the story:
Have things which make positive impacts and optimistic people around you. They would motivate you silently and help you cross hurdles.
