Harry Potter Confession

“Hey kid, are you reading fairy tale”
“Grow up and read something else”
“Hey you know the name of the next Potter book, it’s Harry Potter and Sour Dosa Batter”

That is how I used to make fun of my dear friends who are great fans of Harry Potter Books and I seriously regret for it now 🙂 . Though I love reading books, I think I hated Harry Potter series because my friends were too crazy about it. I must get back those words now and publicly confess in my blog that I have also become a big Harry Potter fan.

It’s all started around 4 months back, I went to one of my friend’s home and I saw a series of Harry Potter books aligned nicely in her bookshelf with her other medical books (she is a doctor). I was too bored that time and was also very curious to know what’s in there for these guys to be too crazy about it, so I borrowed the 1st part “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” after series of warning from her to return back the book safely.

I really enjoyed a lot reading that book and It took me to yet another fascinating world. After completing the 1st part I badly wanted the start read the next one, so with no patience, I started reading it on my laptop from my friend’s ebook collection. Other than the 1st part I read all the other parts on my laptop. I should also admit that at times I used to read in between my working hours at my office (Hope none from my office reads this :P). Just before couple of days I completed reading all the 7 parts and feeling happy and great about it (Please don’t ask why). Just feel like thanking J.K. Rowling for those awesome books.

Waiting Charges – Are You Aware?

Auto-Fare-Meter

I write this blog post based on my recent observation while travelling in a call taxi in Chennai, I am not sure many of us are aware of the following.

When these call taxis advertise their tariffs they also do mention waiting charges. What most of us think is waiting charges are applicable only when we ask the driver to stop somewhere and ask him to wait for some time, Actually it doesn’t work that way. Recently while I was traveling in a call taxi, I noticed the mode in meter changed automatically to “Waiting” mode from “Run” mode and the timer in it started running when the driver stopped at a traffic signal. When I inquired with the driver, he said that the waiting timer will start to run whenever the vehicle comes to halt and the respective amount will be added to the final trip cost. So the trip cost not on depends on the distance but also on traffic and the number of signals on the route.

I understand that there is more fuel consumption when the vehicle stops or moves slowly in traffic, but I feel its unwise to charge it under waiting charge and its the duty of the call taxi companies to make customers aware of this. I wonder whether it’s same for autos too, Have to do a check when I travel in an auto fitted with new meter prescribed by govt.

I, You and We – A Poem, A Tribute To My Teachers

On this Teacher’s day I remember my awesome school teachers, I consider myself very lucky to have them in my life and without them there is no way I would be the one who I am now. They are the one who nurtured my interest in computers and science even though I wasn’t good at academics . They bared all my mischievous activities, my worst handwriting , all time chatterbox in me, sleeping in class, etc., and motivated me a lot. I am sure most of my friends who studied with me feel the same about our teachers. Teaching is a great job, it’s a service more than a profession, I wish I could take it some day.

I just tried pen down a small poem for them, I Dedicate it  to all those awesome school teachers.

I was just a small hopeless seed,
I was handed to the nursery named SCHOOL.
I wasn’t alone, There were many alike buds around.

You TEACHERS were our gardeners who Cared us,
You sowed us in the firm soil of Discipline,
You feed us with water of Values,
You nurtured us with manure of Knowledge,
You exposed us to sun of Spirituality,
You made us take on harder Challenges (CO2),
You made us work hard and reap good Results (O2),
You weed out distractions and kept us Focused,
You enjoyed every moment of our Growth.

We part away from You when we grow up as saplings,
We might grow into great big trees elsewhere,
We might reap sweet fruits and give shade to many,
We, our roots could never forget You,
We, our hearts always thankful to You.

I would also like to share  this fabulous cartoon poster by zenpencils which was made based on the poem titled “What Teachers Make” by Taylor Mali on this Teacher’s Day. Its awesome and I like it so much that I heard it in repeat like a song.

Happy Teacher’s Day to all awesome teachers around the world 🙂
